Board ID:

Symptoms:
Configuration memory, EPC8, failed
to load
Analyst(s):
G. Przybylski
Analysis Procedure(s):
Attempt to reload CPLD and
configuration memory failed.
A quick check of the power supply voltages revealed a fault. 3.3V
was less than 1V, 2.5V was less than 1V. 1.8V OK.
Further analysis deferred. 9/14/04 gtp
10/25/04. Last week George lifted the output beads isolating the
switcher circuit from its loads. The 1.8 and 2.5 V outputs returned to
normal output voltage, however, the 3.3V was still only
2.2V.
Replaced U8, the MAX1702B switching controller. Outputs OK
unloaded. Restored beads. Outputs OK.
Reloaded CPLD, EPC8, and Flash memory. STF Test at room temperature OK.
A pad, U8-9, for an NC pin on the MAX1702 lifted while attempting to
resolder the part. Therefore, this is board is not a good
candidate for deployment.
Root cause:
Faulty switching converter
controller. (overheated during reflow?)
Mitigation:
Replace faulty part.
Disposition:
Software Testing
