Context Diagram

The following context diagram, derived from the union of all use cases, shows the context in which the Experiment Control sub-system must operate.

Actors

The following are the definitions of the actors in the context diagram above.

  • Operator - A person who is accessing the experiment control system via a terminal.
  • DAQ - The sub-system that gathers data from the DOM and writes it to files.
  • TWR - The sub-system that gathers data from AMANDA and writes it to files.
  • sn - The sub-system that gathers data from the DAQ and searches it for SN events.
  • PnF - The sub-system that gathers data from the DAQ, processes it and writes it out to SPADE for transimission over the satellite and storage to tape.
  • SPADE - The sub-system that transfers files from the South Pole to the data warehouse are the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
  • Cluster - The sub-system that monitors all of IceCube's computing systems at the South Pole.
  • Status Web Site - A Collection of XML, XSL and HTML pages that display the current status and history of the detector.
  • Run Summary DBMS - The DBMS that stores summaries of the run.
  • Flasher DBMS - The DBMS that stores configurations use in flasher runs.
  • email - An email sub-system that sends out email messages to a list of recipients.
